February 24th, 2006Party Poker Cracks Down on Cheaters
ZeeJustin, a well known online poker professional recently had his Party Poker Account and over $100,000 worth of funds seized for violating the rules and contracts set by Party Poker. The story is he was caught using multiple accounts and he was using those multiple accounts to play in the same tournament AND on the same tables. He claims that he would normally play 4-6 tables and if he was moved to the same table in a tourney, he would open more tables to handicap his game and make it fair. I don't know how true this is, but if you are doing these kinds of things, it would be advisable to stop right away. February 20th, 2006Will Online Gambling Be Illegal in the United States?
This recent article from the BBC explains that there is a new bill coming from the House of Representatives which will try to stop internet gambling websites. However, this new bill would violate WTO sanctions. If this bill happens to pass the House, it will still have a chance of being rejected by the Senate. In my humble opinion, politicians have been trying to stop people from gambling online for years now and no one I have heard of has ever been arrested for playing a game of poker at places like Party Poker or PokerStars. So Party Poker has decided to add Blackjack to the games they offer. In my humble opinion, this is not so good for us poker players. This means people will be wasting their money on blackjack instead of losing it to us. But who knows, maybe blackjack won't be that popular and people will just ignore it. Dealer hitting on soft 17 gives a non-card counter very bad odds of winning. And to add to the fact that you can't count cards in an online casino, blackjack just isn't going to be very profitable. I actually learned of Party Poker while watching the World Poker Tour on the Travel Channel. I must admit, the commercials really didn't do it for me, but I figured if they had enough money to buy air-time, they must be doing pretty well. So, I checked up on Party Poker and my first reaction was pretty surprising. Players on Party Poker were *absolutely terrible*!!! But- that's a good thing? Accustomed to playing tight players who probably played for a living, the games on Party Poker were just nuts. Bets coming out left and right from the woodwork, from players holding Ace high. Pretty insane even for your Thursday night games.After a bit of adjusting, I found a more normal game at the higher limits, but the low limits are still wild and crazy. If you're a gambler, they are a godsend. If you're anything about average, you can make money in the low limits there. If you're just starting out, it will probably be a little scary with all the betting, but just play at the .50 cent games and you'll get the hang of it quick and start jostling people around.
